The Oak Lawn Community High School Theater Program is a competitive program with two distinct categories; Drama and Group Interpretation. Descriptions of these events are provided below. The Theater season begins at the end of December and ends in April. The Theater schedule does not conflict with the Speech season schedule. |
DRAMA
(Contest Play) Dramatics is an event in which students perform in and run an actual dramatic production, cut to fit within the time limits if necessary. The choice of a presented play shall be from either published oneact plays or cuttings from longer published plays. |
CHILDREN'S PLAY
Children's Play is an event that provides Oak Lawn Theater students with the opportunity to perform in a play that is suitable for all ages. |
GROUP INTERPRETATION
(G.I.)
Group Interpretation is an event in which groups of three (3) or more students interpretively present literature.
The interrelatedness of the narrator(s), the movement of the literature, and character voices control the performance.
Group Interpretation encourages students to create an ensemble performance which showcases their interpretive skills and group work without the aid of costumes, make-up, set or props.
Focus should be primarily off-stage, although mixed focus (a combination of off-stage and on-stage focus) is allowed. 3
The choice of a group interpretation to be presented for competitors shall be, but is not limited to prose, verse, drama, speeches, diaries, letters, essays, or compilations and original material.
